Today we sadly had to say goodbye to Denali, and it would have been a perfect day for pretty much any activity....*sigh*. But you get that. On the way out I took one last shot. By the way those roadtrip shots are all taken with my little Canon compact camera (Powershot ELPH 300 HS) whilst driving - I am amazed at the clarity this camera can produce, with all the shaking from the car and the moving scenery. Top camera buy for sure in terms of value for money!
We drove the 4h to Anchorage to drop off our rental car and then the RV rental company sent a van to pick us up from our location and take us to their facility about 20m away. After the paperwork and a quick intro to the RV (much has changed in the RV world since I was a teenager!) we took off to Walmart to stock up. And yes we saw our first "people of Walmart" contender, an elderly lady who basically just had a bathtowel with elastic wrapped around her and used as a boobskirt. Sadly I could not take a photo.
When we pulled into the parking lot we saw heaps of other RVs there and also signs that said you're not allowed to stay with your RV overnight. Even though Walmart is open 24h. Oh well.
After finishing our shopping we checked the distance to Seward, which is our next stop and which is where we will be doing our photography cruise from on the 8th. It was only about 2.5h away so we decided to drive down and stay the night there rather than driving around Anchorage trying to find a campground.
The drive was, like so many others, very scenic.
I phoned ahead to check that the campground I'd looked at had bays available, and after it was confirmed we put it into the Tomtom (Bear Creek Campground). Tomtom btw needs to update its Alaskan map, on the drive to Seward we constantly dropped off our road and at some stage Tomtom had us driving in a lake. Yes I do have the latest maps available before we left home.
Simone preparing the bed :)
The RV. Very nice and just the right size. It's a brand new vehicle, only had one renter before us and 5000miles on the clock.
